INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

SERIOUSLY? YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON FOR THE FIFTH TIME IN 30 MINUTES.

There’s some part of your brain that recognizes you wanted today to be different. You wanted to get up at the crack of dawn, get your day started on the “right foot,” and start living that life of your dreams. But you can’t even roll out of bed.

The day drags on in the same vein. Slowly. With one part of your brain pushing you to be different, with the rest of your body acting like a toddler in the middle of a Walmart having a tantrum and refusing to cooperate.

Your life is literally the nightmare that was the 80s movie, Ground Hog Day. Going to bed at midnight, your brain lulling you to sleep, telling you tomorrow will be different. Tomorrow, we will start that diet. Go to the gym. Reach out to friends. Complete that project around the house.

You feel so inept and inadequate when you make no progress on reaching these goals in your life. Compounding these feelings are shame and guilt because this has been your life for the past 305 days before this. You feel you have hit a brick wall and can see no way around it, all while slowly sinking into a pit of molasses. Friends and loved ones are tired of hearing about all these amazing things you want to do but don’t make any progress on doing.

I’LL TELL YOU A LITTLE SECRET…

Your brain is an A-hole that loves its comfort zone.

And it’s not just your brain. My brain does the same thing (they’d probably be best friends if they weren’t trapped in our heads).

Together, we will figure out not only those surface thoughts that are keeping you stuck, but all those other thoughts, belief systems, and negative cognitions that are really at the core of what is keeping you in your comfort zone. We will develop new ways of challenging your thoughts and finding actions to help you create momentum for getting out of that molasses.

We will make a little spider-human out of you, so that wall won’t be so intimidating to climb over.

FINDING THE RIGHT THERAPIST IS VITAL TO YOUR SUCCESS.

How will you be able to connect and feel safe with someone if you feel judged by them? This is why the connection between the therapist and client is so important.

In any therapeutic setting, if you feel you cannot tap into the thoughts and feelings motivating your behavior, therapy may not feel beneficial. I am not the type of therapist that will listen to you speak for 45 minutes while intermittently asking you how you feel about something. Instead, I will make you think about why you think in the way you do. I will guess how these thoughts could be making you feel. I will make suggestions about the distorted thought patterns you may be experiencing, which often alleviates any embarrassment you may have by commenting first. My main goal in your therapy session is to understand you better and help you understand yourself better.

I offer a free 15-minute consultation where you can learn more about my therapeutic style, become familiar with my online software platform, and ask questions you might have. If you want to go beyond this consultation and delve deeper into who you are, how you relate to others, and what your ideal treatment goals might be, you’re welcome to schedule an intake session.

A PART OF YOU KNOWS YOU NEED GUIDANCE IN YOUR LIFE.

That’s why you’re here!

Your first individual therapy session will focus on gathering information. I will ask about your past physical, mental, and emotional health. You will share concerns that have caused you to seek therapy.

It can take a few sessions for you to feel comfortable opening up, but this is to be expected. I will help you determine your treatment goals and navigate a road map for us to follow to ensure you get there.

As part of your therapy session, we will review your attachment style and discuss how this may be impacting all-important relationships in your life. We will discuss your personality style and review how this may affect the way you make decisions in your life. We will discuss your childhood and the important influences you had growing up. This can help you understand your worldview. We will discuss negative core beliefs you may have developed with these memories and determine if you engage in self-sabotage behavior due to these beliefs about yourself and your life.

I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) software to help you stay grounded in your frontal lobe and help you recognize feelings as sensations that come and go. This allows you to understand that you are not your feelings and do not need to react. You can simply notice them and move on with your day.
